True Lottery Stories - Meet The World's Luckiest Man

The lottery has a way of exposing people's quirkiest traits. The topic brings up some of people's most interesting facets as we are all creatures who seek pleasure. What is so fascinating are all the different things in which we find pleasure. For some, it's being able to help charities. For others, it's being able to take their family on vacation to Hawaii. However, sometimes the most darkly entertaining stories are those who find the most pleasure in debaucherous behaviour and deceit. We also follow the story of Frane Selak, a man who has escaped the grips of death more times than anyone could ever believe. From being sucked out of an aeroplane cockpit, to being on a train which would be derailed, Selak's story is truly unbelievable but true!

Arnim Ramdass

Arnim Ramdass was a winner of a $10.2 million jackpot in 2007 as well as a secret millionaire. When he won, he hid it from his wife, Donna Campbell. She became suspicious of his behaviour when he kept turning off the television and disconnected the telephone line. Her suspicions rose when a postcard was found addressed to Arnim regarding the purchase of a new home.

However, her feelings of deceit were confirmed when she Googled her husband's name and lottery number where she discovered a Florida press release which named 17 airline mechanics who had also won the jackpot. Her husband was part of the lottery syndicate. The group of 17 opted for the lump-sum payment to the amount of $10,2 million which would earn them each $600,000. Arnim took a leave of absence from work and has not turned up at the couple's home. Today, Donna is fighting a legal battle for half of her estranged husband's winnings, however, servers are unable to find him to hand him the lawsuit and the divorce documents.

Frane Selak

This story features a man who actually became famous for his numerous escapes from potentially fatal accidents. Frane Selak, a Croation music teacher, has to be a prime candidate for one of the unluckiest people on the planet. In 1962, Selak was traveling on a train from Sarajevo to Dubrovnik when the train suddenly derailed and plummeted into an icy river. The catastrophe was the cause for seventeen passengers, however, Selak managed to escape suffering only a broken arm and barely mentionable scrapes and a few bruises. The very next year in 1963, while traversing from Zagreb to Rijeka on an aeroplane, the door strangely blew off the cockpit, ultimately sucking him out of the plane. Again, Selak survived with only minor injuries when he miraculously landed on a stack of hay. Nineteen other victims lost their lives in that very same disaster.

Then in 1966, Frane Selak found himself on yet another mode of transport that would end up at the bottom of a river. Although four passengers were killed, once again, Selak was left unharmed. Four years later, he would find himself escaping from his car after it had become engulfed in flames due to a faulty pump. Three years on, in 1973, yet another of Selak's cars caught alight but after the flames were forced through the vents, he suffered no injuries aside from singed hair. Then in 1995, He was struck down by a bus but walked away yet again suffering only minor injuries.

In 1996, Frane in an attempt to avoid oncoming traffic drove off a cliff. Within context, almost comedically, he survived by landing in a tree while his car plummeted the rest of the way. From that tree 300 feet above where his car eventually came to rest, he witnessed his car explode.

Thankfully for Selak, in 2003 he won $1 million in the Croation lottery. This is what Frane had to say:

"I know God was watching me over all these years," said Selak. Unsurprisingly, he was offered the opportunity feature on a Doritos commercial but flatly refused to fly Australia Air. The reason for that is that he didn't want to test his luck. He has described himself as, either "the world's unluckiest man, or the world's luckiest man."
